The
Margaret River region is only 3 hours drive south
of Perth and offers simple pleasures - peace and
quiet in rural, bush and beach landscapes; award-winning
wines and fine food; stylish accommodation a slow
and easy lifestyle in which to relax and unwind
During the winter whales can be seen off the coast,
as they migrate north to warmer waters. Year round
see the Western Gray Kangaroos that feed on just
about any grassy patch in the early evening. Keen
birders will enjoy the variety of species that
the mix of habitats attracts.
As well as the central township of Margaret River
other towns in the region include Augusta, Karridale,
Cowaramup, Yallingup and Dunsborough.
Margaret River - located along the forested
banks of the Margaret River halfway between Capes
Naturalists and Leeuwin, the township is a great
base from which to explore and experience the
local atmosphere. Award winning restaurants, art
galleries, wineries, fantastic surf beaches, shops
& markets and world class caves can all be found
in and around the township.
Cowaramup - Located 12 kms north of Margaret
River the tiny town offers arts & crafts, gourmet
delights and a delicious sweets store. The nearby
Margaret River Chocolate Company and the Olio
Bello olive farm provide produce for the perfect
picnic.
Augusta
- located at the southern tip of the Margaret
River region, the town is rapidly establishing
itself as an eco-centre. Whales, dolphins, seals,
pelicans wildlife can all be discovered in this
interesting fishing hamlet.
Yallingup - is the aboriginal word meaning
"Place of Love". Yallingup's attractions include;
wineries, a brewery, restaurants, galleries, arts
and crafts stores, plus access to the Leeuwin-
Naturalists National Park. Along the coast there
are magnificent granite outcrops eroded into impressive
formations.
Dunsborough - Sheltered by the waters of
Geography Bay, its quiet coves, sandy beaches,
nature reserves and numerous scenic trails make
Dunsborough a great family spot. Meelup, Eagle
Bay and Bunker Bay offer great beaches for fishing,
swimming and snorkeling and the Swan Dive Wreck
offers a world-class diving experience.
Caves Road
winds its way the length of the Cape and is the most
memorable way to experience the regions diverse
attractions. The road runs like a lazy ribbon south from
Yallingup into the world-renowned Willyabrup valley, the
centre of fine winemaking in Western Australia. The
Jewel Cave, Moondyne Cave, Lake Cave and Mammoth Cave,
along Caves Road in the south are some of the most
pristine, decorative caves in the world.

Cape to Cape Walk track - Running north
to south between Cape Naturalists and Cape Leeuwin,
is a windswept limestone ridge. This long thin
strip of land forms the backbone of the Leeuwin-Naturalists
National Park, and is the setting of the Cape
to Cape Walk Track, a 140 km trail. Hikers may
complete it from end to end, or sample short sections,
reveling in the magnificent coastal scenery, heathlands
and forests of the Leeuwin-Naturalists Ridge.
Many points along the track are easily accessible
for short or longer walks.
Howard Park & Madfish Wines At this contemporary
cellar taste wines bearing the Howard Park label,
made from the very finest fruit grown in the premier
regions of Margaret River and the Great Southern.
More affordable is their Madfish range delicious,
everyday reds & whites.

Xanadu wines this cellar offers tastes
and sales of their 3 labels, Succession, Xanadu
and Lagan Estate as well as an excellent restaurant
with lots of outdoor tables and a kids play-ground
(located at a good distance!)
Evans & Tate well known producers of
premium table wines, after a tasting stop in at
the Redbrook Café for a light lunch. This is another
of the wineries that has a childrens playground,
away from the grown up attractions.
Olio Bello instead of wines taste premium
olive oils and learn the lore of this magic &
healthful ingredient. Olio Bello is a boutique,
hand-made product and oils, olives, pates, fresh
breads and other picnic ingredients are available.
The Berry Farm offers superb and very
unusual wines, port wine and preserves. The Cottage
Restaurant is set in a rambling garden and is
the place for casual lunches, morning and afternoon
teas. The Berry Farm line-up is continually expanding,
all products are naturally prepared in their own
kitchens and packaged beautifully so they make
lovely gifts.
Simmos Ice Cream as you stroll down
the main street of Margaret River or before heading
over to the Sunday morning market, be sure to
stop in for a delicious treat.
Restaurant VAT 107 located at 107 Bussell
Highway in Margaret River, this restaurant brings
a little of the city to the country with stylish
decor, polished floorboards and marble bars but
a menu that reflects a clean & simple philosophy.
Chef Dany Angove is a great advocate of local
foods and uses fresh seasonal produce from around
the southwest region.
Lamont's Margaret River enjoy drinks
on the deck and a la carte dining overlooking
a beautiful lake setting. Lamonts wine style
is also refreshingly different.
Caves Jewel Cave, Mammoth Cave, Moondyne
Cave, Lake Cave
descend a staircase, into the
lost world below the towering karri trees. These
limestone caves feature chambers, delicate formations,
lakes and ancient fossil remains of extinct animals.
