Day 1 - Hobart to Bruny
Island, Inala Cottage, 2 nights
You will be collected in Hobart for the drive and
ferry crossing to Bruny Island.
The islands different habitats range from spectacular
ocean coastline and secluded beaches, to coastal heath and
temperate rainforest. It is also the only place you will
find all Tasmanias endemic bird species and most if its
mammal species, both on land and along its shores. It was
on Bruny Island that Abel Tasman landed in 1642; Cook,
Bligh and Flinders also visited during their voyages.
Accommodation at Inala is in a 3-bedroom farm cottage,
beside a stream, combining modern facilities with
old-fashioned comfort. Ingredients are provided for a full
country breakfast, dinner will be prepared and delivered
to your cottage.
Day 2 - Guided
discovery of Bruny Island
During your stay on the island you are hosted by Dr.
Tonia Cochran, a professional biologist, or by one of her
team of experienced naturalists, who will show you
something of the islands spectacular scenery and the
local wildlife, including seal and penguin colonies,
wallabies, echidnas, bird and reptile life.
The natural diversity of Bruny Island allows touring to
suit individual interests bird watching (140 species),
wildlife observation, rambling hikes and photography.
Bruny Island has an abundance of indigenous bird life,
marsupials and marine life. Whales, seals, dolphins,
penguins, sea lions, sea eagles, albatrosses, cormorants,
gannets can be seen in their natural environments. A
special treat is a dusk visit to see the Fairy penguins
and muttonbirds as well as opportunities to look for
Bennetts wallabies, pademelons and possums.
In the evenings return to Inala, a Land for Wildlife
conservation property nestled in tall eucalypt forest at
the foot of the South Bruny Ranges.
Day 3 - Return to
Hobart
After breakfast and a last morning activity, all
planned to suit your interests, you will be transferred by
ferry and road to Hobart.
