Day 1 - Arnhem Land,
Davidsons Safari Camp, 2 nights
Your tour guide/driver will collect you from your
Darwin hotel early this morning in a fully equipped 4WD
vehicle. Your first stop is Fog Dam to view wetlands of
the Adelaide River before visiting the bird hides of
Mamukala Billabong in Kakadu National Park. After a picnic
lunch, travel to Nourlangie to view some of Kakadu's
spectacular Aboriginal rock art. With permission from the
traditional owners, cross the East Alligator River to
enter Aboriginal Arnhem Land. Visit Injalak Arts Centre,
for an opportunity to buy art, particularly the x-ray
style of bark painting that originated from this locality.
Continue on to Davidson's Safari Camp near Mt Borradaile,
arriving in time for sunset.
Max Davidson has spent most of his life in this area and
it is his intimate relationship with the traditional
owners of the land that enables visitors to experience a
pristine wilderness seen by few. Each of the 12 tents is
airy and has electric lighting. Shared bathroom facilities
are situated a short distance behind the tents. There is a
central social area with a library, kitchen and dining
area where guests enjoy wholesome and generous meals.
Note our ability to drive into Arnhem Land and visit
Oenpelli is dependant on weather/road conditions and river
heights. Where it is not possible, light plane transfers
will depart from Jabiru direct to Davidson's
Day 2 - Arnhem Land,
Davidsons Safari Camp
Today, with your guide, explore the traditional art of
the world-renowned Mt Broadtail area. You have the
opportunity to ramble through a maze of catacomb-like
caves thickly painted with Aboriginal art, and discover
traditional and contact phase artifacts tucked away in
crevices. At sunset enjoy a private boat cruise through
the nationally significant wetlands of Arnhem Land's Cooper
Creek. You may photograph your first crocodile or watch
brolgas dance, as your boat glides through one of the most
prolific places for wildlife viewing.
Day 3 - Return to Darwin
Be up early to go fishing
for barramundi, or take in more Aboriginal art.
Relax around the camp, take a rainforest walk or
go for a swim in a (crocodile-free) water lily
sprinkled pool - the morning is your own. After
lunch your private plane takes you back to Darwin
flying over the spectacular Kakadu
coastline.
