Day 1 - Great Barrier Reef,
Heron Island, 1 night
Arrive in Gladstone, on Australias tropical east coast
and travel by scheduled launch to Heron Island to begin
your Barrier Reef holiday.
Heron Island is a true coral cay right. You can swim
straight off the beach to an endless garden of coral where
the waters are literally teeming with beautifully coloured
fish and marine life.
On arrival on Heron check into your Reef Suite and spend
time exploring the island. Drop by the Marine Centre to
get fitted with snorkelling gear, perhaps join one of the
Islands naturalists for a reef walk or maybe settle into
a sun lounge and just enjoy the views.
Over welcome drinks this evening youll have the chance to
meet your fellow Wilson Island adventurers as your hosts
provide a briefing on the Island.
Day 2 - Wilson Island, 3
nights
Your small group (maximum of 12 guests) departs by boat
for the 45-minute transfer to a private island. Your
island hosts will show you to your tent though with
wooden floors, a king-sized bed and a verandah that offers
uninterrupted reef views its not your average campground!
The Longhouse is the social centre of the Island and it is
here that you may help yourself to drinks and snacks
throughout the day as well as enjoy lounging around
listening to music, reading, or chatting to other guests.
Live and enjoy life as a beachcomber. Days can be filled
snorkelling and exploring the island, in-season watching
turtles and birds nesting, or simply lazing in a hammock
and enjoying the views.
Sunset is spectacular on Wilson Island. Join your fellow
castaways for sunset drinks on the beach followed by
dinner in The Longhouse. Wilson Island dinner parties are
informal occasions barefoot if you wish. Each evening
the menu has a different theme with large platters of food
shared around a long table with wine and good conversation.

Day 3 & 4 - Wilson Island
A lazy morning perhaps? Take in some bird watching
the Islands bird hide allows you to get close to some of
the rare birds on the Island without disturbing their
nesting. Perhaps more snorkelling youll be amazed at
the variety of coral, marine life and tropical fish.
Your hosts have an in-depth knowledge and a genuine
interest in forest and marine ecosystems, having trained
and worked in environmental sciences. They will share
their enthusiasm for the environment whilst leading a
range of nature-based activities including rainforest
walks, reef discovery walks and snorkelling safaris.
Enjoy lunch in the Longhouse or grab a picnic basket and
head off to snorkel the coral formations off Wilson
Island are some of the most dramatic you will see on the
Great Barrier Reef. Late afternoon, help yourself to a
snack and a drink from The Longhouse and maybe even a book
from the library and return to your tent to relax. Sit out
on your private deck or maybe take the opportunity to
enjoy an afternoon nap.
Dinner, share some of your adventures, listen to some
music and then perhaps an evening stroll.
