Haggerstone
is a truly a unique experience from swimming amongst
pristine coral reefs to dining on uninhabited sand
cays, everything from your accomodation in the huts
built by Roy, to the fish caught in the sea and the
fruit from their orchard, is fresh in style!
Roy and Anna Turner have made Haggerstone their home since
1985, when Roy abandoned his days of crocodile hunting in
Papua New Guinea. They have created a paradise of their own
which, together with their intimate knowledge of the area,
makes this one of Australias greatest natural experiences.

Accommodation is in four handcrafted houses ranging in style
from the Robinson Crusoe Beach House to the Tree House built
amongst the forest canopy. Each is uniquely decorated with
local artifacts, shells, driftwood, and each has a wooden deck
with views to the ocean. A generator operates fans in the
rooms and mosquito nets cover the beds. Bathroom facilities
are en suite and open into the surrounding vegetation.
The
main living area is a large timber room, with open
kitchen, dining area and library. The garden is a
pleasure, passion fruit compete with Kaffir lime,
mango and curry trees. Vines of tropical butternut
have to be coaxed away from beds of rocket and bok-choy;
basil, coriander and parsley compete for space with
lemongrass and ginger. The homegrown produce is combined
with fresh caught fish to create a cuisine that is
refreshingly simple and totally delicious.
Spend your days reef snorkeling in the lagoon or the outer
reef where the huge variety of marine life includes turtles,
sharks, rays and dolphins. Explore the 1840s shipwreck,
complete with giant anchors, winching blocks and bronze keel
bolts.
A large number of birds are resident on the island and can be
seen on short walks or if you feel energetic, climb over the
top of the island. With Roy as your guide spend a day boating
amongst the rivers and mangroves on the mainland, visit the
silica dunes in Shelburne Bay or try your luck at fishing.
