Built
in 1876, Tyrconnell was a fully operational goldmine
& the most famous of the Hodgkinson goldfield.
In the 1980s Andrews family owned and worked the
mine until gold prices fell to a point that made the
operation unsustainable and Andrew & Cate re-invented
the property as a unique outback experience.
The scrubby
hills of blood wood trees and termite mounds are
scattered with reminders of the past - giant boilers,
rusting iron buildings, old bottle collections, shovel
heads, horse-shoes and the crane that was used to pull
the gold from below the surface. Tyrconnell is an
unplanned museum, a natural record of more than a
century of gold
mining.
