Rainforest Retreat

Jon and Peta Nott have created a delightful private retreat perched on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range, with spectacular views across the rainforest towards Queensland’s highest peaks.

Accommodation is in one of four, pole & timber chalets, each with a private living area and balcony with views to the ranges, an open fireplace, well equipped kitchen and a spa bathroom with separate shower.

Set amongst 230 acres of rainforest and eucalypt forest on the edge of the World Heritage area, Rose Gums provides a sanctuary amongst the sights and sounds of the tropical rainforest. With the care of true conservationists, Jon and Peta have restored the native vegetation on the property and with it has come a profusion of bird life and many of the forest’s mammals.

The pleasure from spending a quiet hour on the banks of Butcher’s Creek amongst the buzz of rainforest sounds is an experience in itself; however, the ultimate reward is in spotting an elusive platypus. Rose Gums style leaves you very much to enjoy the rainforest at your leisure or with the services of an expert local guide.

Why Rose Gums?

  • Set your own pace, relax and view birds from your chalet verandah or enjoy walks on the property – walking maps provided, or guided walks with Jon.

  • This is a bird watchers paradise; over 160 species have been recorded (have an evening sun downer and watch the Sarus Cranes flying in). A resident cassowary is a rare sighting.

  • Wildlife viewing may include pad melons, possums, platypus and tree kangaroos.

  • The Atherton Tablelands were host to Queensland’s early settlement and the region is full of historic reminders – explore by hire car or let us arrange a guide. Visit the villages & markets of Malanda, Yungaburra & Atherton, the numerous waterfalls & crater lakes of the region, nearby wetlands and National Parks.
