Murray River Sheep Station & Historic Homestead

Edward John Eyre, one of Australia’s greatest explorers settled Portee as a sheep grazing property in 1841. Ian and Margaret Clark continue to run Portee as a commercial station and while Eyre’s old homestead no longer stands, they invite guests into their historic home.

Built in 1873 on the floodplain of the Murray River the homestead is surrounded by wetlands, abundant bird life and age-old river gums. Guests are treated to warm hospitality and an insight to a working station.
