Luxury Tented Camp, south of Sydney |
|
The
Paperbark forest that borders the Currumbene Creek
gives the camp its name and your hosts, Jeremy
and Irena, have created an experience that combines
stylish tented accomodation (with en suite bathroom)
and nature. Although the camp is just a short
hop from the rat-race of Sydney, this camp is
a million miles away in terms of mood. Here your
biggest concern is to keep your tent zipped up
so that the local possums and ant echinus (a small
marsupial) do not have the chance to make off
with your toiletries they are friendly but mischievous!

The ten safari tents, built on wooden decks and furnished with
locally made bush furniture, feature open-air en suite
bathrooms. The main gunyah is built on stilts and is the
central gathering point and dining area with comfortable sofas
and a small library of books and material on the local area.
Dinner is a three course menu, held in the gunyah, with a
wood fire burning in the winter months or you can enjoy dinner
in the privacy of your own tent and the surrounding bush. The
camp has been built on ecological principles, with
conservative usage of water and solar powered electricity.
Nearby
Jervis Bay provides white sand beaches, serene
coastal scenery and wildlife. The Bay plays host
to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife: dolphins
and fur seals have made this coast their home
and Bowen Island is one of the northernmost rookeries
for the Australian Fairy Penguin. Sitting on the
point at Cape St. George on a cool clear winters
day, watching the plumes of spray and swirls of
water as Humpback and Southern Right whales head
north on their annual migration is an exhilarating
experience. Or if you feel more adventurous, you
can view these
great mammals up close from a
boat.
