Hugging
the spectacular coastline of north Queensland, the
World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest is the largest
stretch of tropical rainforest left in Australia.
One fifth of Australia's bird species resides in this
area and a bewildering array of plants have survived
for at least 100 million years. The area boasts wildlife
and habitat more akin to the forests of Papua New
Guinea than the rest of Australia.
Peppers Bloomfield Lodge is located on the Bloomfield
River, where the rainforest meets the reef. The lodge
has been carefully designed to blend into the beauty
of the rainforest, while views out over the blue waters
of Weary Bay are a reminder of its coastal location.
The natural timber cabins are located amidst lush
gardens, blossoming with vibrant flowers and resounding
with birdsong. There are 4 categories of room, each
has ceiling fans and an en suite bathroom.
The dining area overlooks the pool, which is surrounded
by timber decking. Guests join together making for
a social gathering, although private gazebos cater
for those who prefer privacy. There is a bar area
and in the evening you may like a game of chess, snooker
or table tennis. The library area offers a good selection
of books on nature and the region.

Optional
excursions from the lodge include four-wheel drive
trips to spectacular waterfalls on the upper reaches
of the Bloomfield River where there are lovely pools
for a refreshing dip. Away from the mangroves and
silt-laden waters of the river estuary, visit the
Great Barrier Reef on a private yacht charter. Stop
at the Hope Islands (named after Cook had found the
Endeavor River and a site to repair his ship) and
snorkel the coral reefs, try your luck at fishing
or comb the white sand beaches.
In the hinterland behind the lodge, visit Jowalbinna
caves where fine Aboriginal rock art can be viewed
with guide Percy Trezise, the bush pilot who rediscovered
this gallery in the 1970s.
